【摘要】:DiplopiaordoublingofvisionoccurswhenthereissufficientbinoculardisparitypresentsothattheboundsofPanum''sarea(theareaofsinglevision)isexceeded.Thisconditionariseswheneveroneobjectissignificantlycloser(orfarther)thananothersothatlookingatonewillcausetheimageoftheothertoappeardouble.Thiscanbeeasilydemonstrated:Closeoneeyeandlookataclock(orotherobject)onadistantwall.Nowplaceyourthumbtoonesideoftheimageoftheclock.Nowopenbotheyes.Ifyoulookattheclock,youshouldseetwothumbs.Ifyoulookatyourthumb,youshouldseetwoclocks.Complaintsfrompilotsflyingaircraftequippedwithwidefieldofviewheadupdisplays(HUDs)suchastheLANTIRNHUDindicatedthattheywereexperiencingdiscomfort(eyefatigue,headaches,andsoforth.)orseeingeithertwotargetsortwopippers(aimingsymbolsontheHUD)whenusingtheHUD.SubsequentinvestigationsrevealedthattheproblemarosefromthefactthattheaircrafttransparencyandtheHUDsignificantlychangedtheopticaldistancesofthetargetandtheHUDimagerysothatbinoculardisparity,whichexceededPanum''sareawasinduced.Useofthistestmethodprovidesaprocedurebywhichtheamountofbinoculardisparitybeingexperiencedbyahumanoperatorduetothepresenceofatransparentpartinhisfieldofviewmaybeeasilyandpreciselymeasured.1.1Thistestmethodcoverstheamountofbinoculardisparitythatisinducedbytransparentpartssuchasaircraftwindscreens,canopies,HUDcombiningglasses,visors,orgoggles.Thistestmethodmaybeappliedtopartsofanysize,shape,orthickness,individuallyorincombination,soastodeterminethecontributionofeachtransparentparttotheoverallbinoculardisparitypresentinthetotalx201C;viewingsystemx201D;beingusedbyahumanoperator.1.2Thistestmethodrepresentsoneofseveraltechniquesthatareavailableformeasuringbinoculardisparity,butistheonlytechniquethatyieldsaquantitativefigureofmeritthatcanberelatedtooperatorvisualperformance.1.3ThistestmethodemploysapparatuscurrentlybeingusedinthemeasurementofopticalangulardeviationunderMethodF801.1.4Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.ThevaluesgiveninparenthesesaremathematicalconversionstoSIunitsthatareprovidedforinformationonlyandarenotconsideredstandard.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
